SHANE'S TRAINING - Week of Mar 25, 2024

This week is what many people call a “forced deload” week. The training from last week went well through day 5 (Friday), but I missed day 6 because I started to get sick on Friday. Really sick. Fever, coughing, congestion. The whole shebang. Generally, when I get sick, it lasts a day or two, at most. Not so with this illness. It is lingering and lingering and, when I think it is getting better, comes right back in.

I went to the doctor and definitely have an ear infection, pink eye, and some kind of respiratory thing (negative for COVID), possibly a sinus infection, which the antibiotics I was prescribed for the ear infection should take care of. As of this writing (Tuesday the 26th) I still have a fever in the high 102’s and low 103’s when not taking some kind of fever reducer. All of this to say that I’m basically a mess.

I have no idea when this will all clear up and I can get back to training. My appetite has been terrible and my weight is way down. So far I’ve lost a little over 6 pounds. I know from experience that this kind of weight loss so quickly has a significant impact on performance. My first priority will be to get my eating back to normal and try to get my weight up. Until then, even if the fever breaks and I’m healthy again, I will have to be very conservative with any training I do.
