SHANE'S TRAINING - Week of Dec 18, 2023

I got sick at the end of last week. I noticed on Wednesday that I felt a ton of pressure in my head while messing around with some handstand pushups. Being upside down always puts pressure in your head, but I felt like my head was going to explode. This should have been my first warning.

Thursday I started to have a sore throat and congestion and feeling more tired than usual. I still didn’t think much of this and did the workout as planned. This felt a little heavier and slower than expected but, again, nothing that was so unusual that it made me change my plans. By that evening, however, the situation rapidly changed. By the next morning I felt so crappy that I canceled my clients and decided to take the day off from training (this is very rare for me, even when I have a cold). This persisted through Sunday and only started to break Monday morning.

All of this means that I am going to take the week to have no plan. Next week is Christmas and I doubt I will have, or want, to devote a ton of time to training. The week after that I am out of town and won’t have access to regular training, so starting any kind of cycle at this time seems silly. Therefore, I am going to see what I feel like doing each day and doing that. That may mean classic lifts. That may mean bro-ing out and crushing 25 sets of chest and biceps. It will depend on what I feel like each day, which might be simply taking the day off as well.

This is pretty rare for me. It seems to happen every couple of years. I see no real harm from doing it and, indeed, there is a lot of mental benefit to it.
